An acceptable simulator game for fishing fans

Fishing is a very relaxing activity, and it’s no surprise that some people do it just for fun rather than for necessity. Unfortunately, it’s not an activity that everyone can afford. Not only do you have to buy proper equipment, but you also have to travel to locations with large stocks of fish and, hopefully, some grand scenery for you to enjoy as you fish. Thankfully, there are now simulation games for virtually every activity and fishing is no exception. Pro Fishing Simulator is a fishing game developed by Sanuk Games and published by Bigben Interactive. It’s a relaxing simulation game for all the fishing fans out there.

Good Graphics

As a video game, Pro Fishing Simulator has a lot to improve on, but if there are some things it got right, they are its graphics and atmosphere. Now, unless the developers have the budget of a triple-A game set to be released for the PS4, their game’s 3D graphics will always fall somewhere within the uncanny valley. For the human characters, this is somewhat true. The game is definitely going for a realistic style for their characters, but the end result still looks somewhat fake and a bit like plastic. When it comes to the environment, however, the game really went all out in terms of quality. The rendering looks amazing and there are times when it looks almost real. Looking at the water texture and reflections are a real treat because they are very convincing. Of course, it’s not perfect, and in very close-up shots, you’ll still see pixelated graphics.

Atmospheric and Scenic

This focus on realism also adds greatly to the game’s atmosphere. Pro Fishing Simulator tries to capture the calmness and serenity of real fishing. There is minimal music in the game, and instead, players get to enjoy nature sound effects like chirping crickets, burbling water, and singing birds. All of the locations you can visit are also very scenic and majestic.

Fishing Gameplay

The gameplay is very simple and straightforward. You cast your hook, wait for it to catch something, and reel your catch in. There indicators at the bottom-left of the screen that displays your hook’s distance, speed, challenges, and more. Some would say the gameplay is too simple, unfortunately. This game doesn’t provide a lot of challenge for its players. All it takes to get the fish is to reel it in. The fish doesn’t fight back as much to pose a problem making the game too easy for more advanced players.

Acceptable for What It Is

Pro Fishing Simulator is definitely not breaking any new grounds when it comes to gaming. However, it is acceptable for what it is. It has good and realistic graphics, albeit still somewhere within the uncanny valley. Its gameplay is too simple, unfortunately. It also doesn’t provide a lot of challenges for its players. Still, it has a lot of locations to explore and fishes to catch. It also has weekly and seasonal challenges for achievement hunters out there. It’s worth checking out, but potential buyers should keep its price in mind before they buy.
